Children rehearsing a drama performance together

Act I · Our story

Twenty-five seasons of finding voices.

Act I · Speech and drama, taken seriously

25 years of speech and drama in Gauteng schools

Confident Kids was founded on a simple belief: the ability to communicate clearly and with conviction can be taught, and it changes lives.

We are a specialist speech and drama provider based in Benoni and teaching across Johannesburg and Bedfordview. Rather than asking families to travel to a studio, our qualified teachers work on the grounds of partner schools, during the school day or as an extra-mural, in close partnership with each school's leadership.

Our programme follows learners all the way from Grade 0 to Grade 12. Younger learners build vocabulary, clear speech and the confidence to be seen. Older learners take on poetry, prose, drama, public speaking and persuasive communication, and many sit Trinity College London graded examinations and compete in eisteddfods.

Act II · The method

How a lesson is built

  1. Warm-up

Breath, posture, articulation and focus. The craft every speaker and actor relies on.

  2. Text

Poems, prose, monologues and speeches chosen for each learner's age and stage, explored for meaning before performance.

  3. Performance

Every learner performs, every lesson, to a supportive audience of peers, with specific, constructive feedback.

  4. Reflection

Learners learn to evaluate their own work, set goals and prepare for examinations, eisteddfods and school orals.

Act III · For schools

A partner, not a provider

Principals and heads of department choose Confident Kids because we take the administration off their plate: registrations, timetabling, parent communication, examination entries and payments are handled by our office.

In their own words

Both my children attend Confident Kids and it's been one of the best decisions we've made. The Eisteddfod training helped my daughter win several competitions, and my son's confidence in presentations has improved dramatically. The team creates a supportive, fun environment where kids truly thrive.

Amanda WilliamsParent, St Andrews School

I've been doing drama with Confident Kids for two years and it's my absolute favorite activity! The teachers make every lesson exciting and I've made so many friends. I used to be nervous about speaking in front of people, but now I love performing!
